Malaysian Menopause Society AGM & Family Day Report
Saturday 15th April 2006
The Boulevard Hotel, Mid Valley Kuala Lumpur

June 2006

Oh what a great event it was! And if you were not there, you missed an afternoon of meeting friends, togetherness, and a short lecture on how to save your money, followed by a very short AGM and to end it all - wonderful, glorious FOOD!!!!! The pictures in the following pages should take you though the afternoon – Eat your Heart out, absentees!

The registration was only supposed to start at 1 pm, but way before that we already had members standing at our registration table. The MMS had taken over the whole meeting floor of the Boulevard Hotel for ourselves. That way we could monitor everyone that came in. Members who had gone shopping at Megamall came in with shopping bags. There were those who got lost despite our wonderful directions and struggled in after walking miles – from the car park - POOR THINGS – We even got you to exercise!! Families that came in together and were happily separated - children whisked off to the Family Day Event along the same corridor – even some spouses were attracted to that room!!!

Dr. Gunananthan our guest speaker gave a very informative speech about how to keep your money wisely and how not to spend it. Dr. Guna who actually stays just a few doors away from me has become a father again – Congratulations!! There were 87 registrants for this talk, which was open to all. The talk was followed by a straight forward and non complicated AGM. It is a non election year. The reports from the respective sub committees were read out and new plans put forward for the upcoming year.

Meanwhile down the corridor they were having FUN!!. The Family Day Event organized by Merck (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd had taken off with a bang. The coloring contest were divided into 2 age groups – 4-7 years old and 9 – 12 years old. There were only 6 participants and they were ALL WINNERS!!! Congratulations to the following:

4th Prize: Noor Adeebah

The Pirates Treasure Hunt was through the Mega Mall – clues painstakingly set out by the Merck Team – who monitored quietly the movements of the two teams who took part. The clues were solved in both cases and the teams were back at the starting point with the prize in the allotted time, but “Oh So Tired Lah” after that long walk through the mall. Congratulations again – well done!!

Stanley the “Clown” was the lead entertainer in the Family Day Room, keeping the children busy with dancing and balloons whilst the parents were busy listening to the talk and attending the AGM.

The AGM ended with the Ladies in black with their line dancing performance. If they were already in their menopause – they sure did not look like it!!! Thank you for your performance ladies – well done.

The buffet was of course the high light of the afternoon and what a feast was laid out. Unanimously everyone agreed it was a fantastic spread – so much so – every little bit was swallowed and even some seen scrapping the bottom of the curries, salads and deserts.

To the Elaine and rest of the team form Schering, thank you for being the secretariat and all the hard work that came along with this meeting. To Annie and the group from Organon – thank you for the mini launch of the web page which would be now in your good hands. Merck (Mal) Sdn Bhd, Monisha and team – well done, you helped make it really FUN!!! To all the sponsors (whether big or small) thank you for your never ending support.

Lastly, I have my team to thank. Puan Lim ( always the stalwart), Assoc Prof Tan Ay Eng (who could not finally attend but gave valuable support and time), Dr. Ho Choon Moy (Secretary) and Dr. Kamaljit (the money lady) – A very big thank you!

It is always good to get together – even for us at the committee level – to let out our hair, meet up with the regular members and catch up on the year’s news. It is events like this that keep us going. We have more events coming up this year ; we will be letting you know in due course!
