WORLD MENOPAUSE DAY 2007

4 November 2007, Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

The celebration of the World Menopause Day 2007 started with the planning and preparation as early as May this year and culminating in hosting the event on 4th November. Merck was the Secretariat for the event.

On the day of the event, the exhibitors were at the venue at 9am setting up their booths, to showcase their products and promotions. The MMS booth was managed by our Exco members, Hardip Kaur, Sakuntala, Liza Lum and Lim Ai Loon. Registration started at 11.00am and over 400 participants registered.

The stage events started at 1pm. The Master of Ceremony for the day were Ms Lynn Wong Abdullah from Merck and Dr Ho Choon Moy, MMS Vice President and the Organizing Chairperson of WMD2007.

Dr Ho presented her welcome address which was followed by the MMS President Dr Liew Fah Onn’s speech and official opening of the event. Dr Liew started the ball rolling with the first talk titled Still a Hot Chick. This was followed by Dr Premitha’s talk Weight & Blood Pressure Friendly HRT and Dr Ong Hean Choon’s Spice Up Your Life with A Stear. There was a 15-min coffee break. The talks resumed with Dr Peter Ng who delivered two topics titled The Trouble with Women’s Bladders and Understanding & Dealing with Male Sexual Dysfunction. Dr Lee Say Fatt presented the final talk titled Cervical Cancer – A Preventable Cancer. The talks were informative, educational, interesting, and humorous at times which had the audience in stitches.

Entertainment was provided by a group of ladies, which included some of our MMS members, from Jane Dancing School. The feisty ladies led by Mr Loo and his wife, Jane, performed three lively line dances namely Sarong Cha Cha, Irish Stew and Madu dan Racun, which were well received by the appreciative audience.

The highlight of the event was of course the Lucky Draws. A total of 70 prizes were given out. Our MMS Vice President, Dato Dr Joe Gendeh and his wife Datin Dr Kumari, and Puan Siti Nooruhani Ibrahim were on hand to help draw the lucky winners.

Certificates of appreciation were presented by the MMS President, Dr Liew, to the sponsors namely Merck, Pfizer, Organon, Bayer Schering Pharma, Glaxo Smith Kline, Propharm, Wyeth, Solvay Pharma, and Pantai Cheras Medical Centre. Dr Liew also presented a memento to the Secretariat of the WMD 2007 event, which was represented by Puan Siti Nooruhani Ibrahim, General Manager of Merck Consumer Health Care.

Before the event ended, the participants were treated to a sumptuous hi-tea.

The event ended around 7pm. It had been a successful and an enjoyable event. Participants were generally satisfied and happy. They had the opportunity to learn, to listen and to share. They went back with a full stomach, a generous goodie bag, and some with lucky draw prizes. There was much laughter and good fun all around.
