THE SECRETARY REPORTS

Dear Members,

The Singapore Menopause Congress has come and gone. Despite our efforts in promoting the event, the response from our members were poor. The planned trip we hoped to organize did not materialize. Only a handful of our members attended the congress. I was there. The congress was informative and I did learn and enjoy myself. Our President, Prof Nik, was also there. He gave a talk on behalf of MMS

and he also judged the debate and chaired several lectures during the congress.

On 1st October, we had our World Menopause Day celebration. It was a grand affair and well attended by our members. There were lots to learn, loads of goodies, a splendid array of scrumptious food and plenty of fun especially the fashion show. I never imagined that I, in my late 40s, could actually strut on the cat-walk! And to see our members who were in their 50s and 60s doing that was certainly an eye-opener.

We just had our Fellowship Night on 1st December. I’m sure those who were there that night enjoyed themselves and had fun. There was much goodwill and spontaneous gaiety throughout the night. I wish more of our members could have joined us that night. The event was specially organized for members to come together, interact and have fun, meet new friends and share life experiences.

We are now busy preparing for our 6th Malaysian Menopause Congress which will be held in April 2007 at Berjaya Times Square. Do try to attend the congress. Take some time off from your daily routine. Make it a social event or an outing amongst friends. This congress is also a platform for members to learn the latest in menopause management. Knowledge will empower you to make learned decisions to better manage your health.

The holiday season is here again. We just had our Hari Raya and Deepavali celebrations (and the extra kilos some of us inadvertently piled on is still there!) and now we are preparing for Christmas and New Year. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Indulge in whatever you like but always in moderation. Eat more of the healthy stuff and less of the unhealthy stuff. And, work out the excesses that you have indulged. It could be as easy as putting on your walking shoes and going for a long walk. Or better still, put on your dancing shoes and dance away…….

I wish all our members Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year.

Warm regards,
Dr Ho Choon Moy
